The singles night held in June, entitled Bengali Bliss , was the brainchild of a group of Bengali young professionals, who all met at a business-networking event held at Lasan earlier in the year.
After discussing the topic of socialising and meeting other Bengali prospective partners, the fact that many of them were young, hardworking professionals, meant there is often no time for love, especially with likeminded people who share the same Bengali culture.
And so they developed this idea, by arranging the first Midland's Bengali Singles Night – a social event for Bengali young professionals at a relaxed and stylish venue, with traditional clothing, music and food – the perfect recipe for love .
Lasan was the obvious venue choice after the group had been so impressed with its hosting of networking events, and with many of them regularly dining out there, they knew Lasan would offer the perfect atmosphere and food.
The event was a huge success, attracting over 70 young Bengali professionals between 18-35 years of age. After drinks, a customary buffet and some icebreaker games, people mingled, chatted and generally let their hair down, forming new friendships and possibly more…
Lasan restaurant owner, Jabbar Khan said, “The evening was a really fun event. The Bengali Bliss group had organised the event well and everyone was really pleased with its success. I am always interested in how I can lend my support to unique events aimed at giving help and support to the Asian community.
I know the group are planning more of these Singles Nights at Lasan and who knows, I might be the host for the first Bengali wedding as a result of the events, that would be good”.
After the success of the first event, the inspirational group of friends have decided to name themselves, Bengali Bliss , and their designated leader, Fateha Begum said, “We were really surprised with the success of the first social evening. We were pleased other young Bengali professionals saw the benefits of the evening and we can hopefully celebrate our first love match soon.
“There is no pressure to find the person of your dreams at our events, they really are meant to be a fun way of socialising with other like-minded Bengali's to build a friendship group. Since the last event, many of us have met up and done other fun activities together.
“We have also been very grateful to Jabbar Khan at Lasan for his help in hosting the event. The superb settings of Lasan, the food and atmosphere all enhanced the success of the night and we will definitely be holding more there”.
There is another Singles Night planned for September, with details to be confirmed. For anyone interested in joining the Bengali Bliss group, you can email

About Bengali Bliss
Bengali Bliss is a group of Bengali friends who met at a business networking evening held at Lasan restaurant.
After chatting about their careers, social life and culture, they all recognised the difficulty in meeting other Bengali men and women due to their busy lives and jobs.
They decided to set up a social event for young Bengali professionals, to come along and meet other like-minded individuals in a bid to make new friends and maybe more.
They entitled the evening Bengali Bliss, and due to its success they have decided that this should be the group's organising name.
There are more Bengali Bliss events planned and group leader, Fateha Begum is happy to hear from anyone interested in coming along to the events.
The Bengali Bliss events are open to any Bengali professional aged 18-35 years old.
