Winner of the small business category, Jabbar scooped the top award; a beautifully designed goblet which is now proudly residing alongside Lasan’s other many awards.
Now, as well as the restaurant’s food doing the talking, Jabbar Khan, the brains behind the Lasan experience has again been formally recognised for his entrepreneurial and inspirational leadership as one of Birmingham’s leading figures in business.
With his 29th birthday just days away, Jabbar has done what many aspiring business people try for decades to achieve – transforming their dreams into a highly successful reality.
Success has come in many forms for the top restaurant. Since opening three years ago, it has been recognised as one of the top 10 Indian Restaurants in the UK by the Independent newspaper, critiqued for great Indian food by the Guardian, as well as receiving ongoing praise from the local press and glossy food media alike. Jabbar himself, is listed in the Who’s Who of Young Business Elite and has achieved position of finalist in two prestigious awards; Young Restaurant Manager of the Year and Restaurant Personality of the Year. Lasan’s chefs and waiters have also won numerous awards and even the contemporary décor has been a talking point.
Commenting on his award, Jabbar said, “I was really thrilled to win the award from the IOD. I have worked very hard in setting up the restaurant and I accepted the award on behalf of everyone who has worked with me to build Lasan into a restaurant that epitomises excellence in every aspect.”
The testimonials and nominations that lead to Jabbar’s award came from an array of Birmingham’s most noted business people from the Chamber of Commerce and English Partnerships.
David Draycott, Executive Director of Business Services Division at Birmingham Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, “This is an entrepreneur who is going places. He is rapidly establishing a name for himself and his superb restaurant at a regional and national level, but he also finds the time to support and work with the wider business community”.
Paul Spooner, Regional Director for English Partnerships also said, “I have had the privilege of working with many fine entrepreneurs whose success is re-asserting the city. Jabbar Khan is at the forefront of this group. Through his leadership and business acumen, Lasan restaurant has developed into an exemplar business – high quality management with a real commitment to developing its people“.
The high-profile awards ceremony headed by the Institute of Directors, took place at Birmingham Football Club’s Holte Suite. The event rewarded the top Young Director in 4 classes, Micro Business, Small Business (in which Jabbar won), Medium Business and Large Business.
All nominees were put through a pragmatic and rigorous process to assess their leadership skills and success.
